While dogs have historically been considered man’s best friend, a certain 5-year-old boy from Philadelphia prefers cats.

According to ABC News, Shon Griffin has been connecting with cats (in super hero costumes) since he was three years old, earning him the adorable nickname ‘Catman’ by his aunt Kris Papiernik. She and her fiancee, Kia Griffin, have been rescuing cats and fostering them for a decade. They realized Shon had a gift for connecting with cats when he was 3. “It all started when we spotted two feral kittens we named Lady and Bug behind a row of houses in a driveway,” Kris explains. They called two of the feral felines they take care of the Kolony Kats.

They said that while they were able to trap, spay, and give shots to one of their kitties, Lady, without a problem, the other one, Bug, wouldn’t make contact with anyone…until Shon. “[The cats] took to him right away,” Griffin said. “Bug came right over to Shon, rubbed against his legs and allowed him to pet him.”

Since then, Bug had all of his procedures done and has become one of the friendliest cats in the group. Shon helps take care of all 45 cats at four different locations around the city.

“When he is home with us, the indoor kitties get lots of love, affection and playtime from Shon,” Griffin said. “They sleep with him and wake him up with kisses. He truly loves them, and they love him back just as much.”
