According to NFL great Ray Lewis, Colin Kaepernick was this close to becoming a Baltimore Raven.

But Lewis says the team stopped the negotiations with Kaepernick after the 29-year-old’s girlfriend Nessa Diab posted a tweet that ridiculed Lewis and Raven owner Steve Bisciotti.

“We were going to close the deal to sign him. Steve Bisciotti said, ‘I want to hear Colin Kaepernick speak to let me know that he wants to play football.’ And it never happens because that picture comes up the next day,” Lewis said on Showtime’s Inside the NFL on Tuesday night.

On August 2 Diab, an on-air personality for Hot 97, tweeted a photo that compared a picture of Lewis being hugged by Bisciotti to a scene from Django Unchained.

“(Diab) goes out and put out this racist gesture and doesn’t know we are in the back office about to try to get this guy signed. Steve Bisciotti has said it himself: ‘How can you crucify Ray Lewis when Ray Lewis is the one calling for Colin Kaepernick?” Lewis added.

Ray Lewis may have successfully pivoted himself out of a sticky situation…again.
