In the midst of the Black Panther glory that has hit theaters nationwide, one organization is using the hype around Wakanda for a very special purpose—to elevate Black lives and issues.

“Wakanda the Vote” is a new initiative from The Movement for Black Lives’ The Electoral Justice Project aimed at getting people on the right path for the midterm elections.

“The Movement for Black Lives has always believed in meeting people where they are and this weekend we’ll be in Wakanda,” the group writes on its website. “With our Wakanda inspired outfits on, we’ll be registering folks in lines for Black Panther this weekend all over the country.”

The organization is also extending the invite to create your own event, encouraging others to text PANTHER to 91990 to create an event or register to vote by texting WAKANDA to the same number.

The Electoral Justice Project (EJP) is a project of the Movement for Black Lives that seeks to continue a long legacy of social movements fighting for the advancement of the rights of Black folks through electoral strategy. The movement focuses on demands to end the war on Black people, provide reparations, retain and improve community control and political power, and more.
