In September 2018, The Bobby Brown Story is coming to BET.

According to BET, the first round of casting for the original miniseries The Bobby Brown Story has been completed. The New Edition Story broke BET ratings records when it aired in January 2017, and The Bobby Brown Story picks up where it left off following his solo career. Bobby Brown became one of the genre’s original “bad boys” whose actions epitomized a “sex, drugs, and rock ‘n’ roll” lifestyle. His songs (and his wild and crazy antics) kept him on the front page.

As announced previously, Woody McClain will reprise his role as Bobby Brown. Appearing alongside McClain will be Mekhi Phifer (Frequency) playing Tommy Brown, Bobby’s brother. Milton “Lil Rel” Howery (The Carmichael Show) will play Brian Irvine, Bobby’s business manager. Lance Gross will portray Steven Seally, a childhood friend of Bobby’s who was murdered in a gunfight after hanging out with him in his hometown bar. Laz Alonso (The Mysteries of Laura) will embody Louis Silas Jr., an MCA executive who helps make Bobby a solo star. Sandi McCree will reprise her role as Bobby’s mother Carole Brown, and T.K. Carter (The Corner) will play his father. Alyssa Goss will play Bobby’s current wife, Alicia Etheridge.

The two-episode miniseries is being executive produced by Jesse Collins (The New Edition Story) for JCE Films, a division of Jesse Collins Entertainment. It was written by Abdul Williams (Lottery Ticket, The New Edition Story) and directed by award-winning director and Spike Lee’s protégé, Kiel Adrian Scott.

While we’ll still be waiting around for a while to watch the series (production began on Tuesday in Atlanta), there is no doubt that we’ll be keeping an eye out, excited to see what the cast and crew have in store for us.
