For those who weren’t able to see Broadway’s biggest hit Hamilton in New York City, it looks like folks might be able to see it in their own hometown.

Hollywood studios are reportedly currently bidding for the movie rights to Lin-Manuel Miranda‘s hit musical, but not in the live-action adaptation you might think.

Two anonymous sources told The Wall Street Journal on Tuesday that they would be using an official 2016  recording of a staged performance, made over two nights in New York and is an exact replica of the Broadway production, and would be including the original Broadway cast. This would mean Lin-Manuel Miranda would be playing the title role as Alexander Hamilton.

Miranda has yet to comment on the veracity of these rumors but in 2017, he had confirmed with The Hollywood Reporter that a film adaptation would happen eventually. The year prior he also revealed that the recording existed after winning several Tony Awards for his hit musical.

“What are we doing with that footage? No idea,” he said. “Throwing it in a vault at Gringotts for a bit [probably]. But we’re getting to it.”

Several studios, including Warner Bros. and 21st Century Fox, have placed their bids on the movie. The sources added that the film would probably debut in 2020 or 2021.
