262 Mass Shootings Have Occurred in the US in 263 Days, the Gun Violence Archive Says.
There have been a handful of mass shootings in just the past few days, but this is sadly the trend in 2018, as Vox noted Thursday, and “roughly in line” with trends of recent years.
“In all of 2015, there were 335 mass shootings,” they reported. “In 2016, there were 382. In 2017, there were 346.”
And there have been over 1,800 mass shootings in America since 2013. You can check out Vox’s map for a visual representation.
Gentrification Is Driving Haitians Out of Miami’s Little Haiti Neighborhood.
VICE writer Christian Portilla lived in Little Haiti from 2014 through this past April. During his residency, he noticed quite a rapid and disheartening change.
“Gentrification has begun to erase these distinct features that make Little Haiti a special place,” he shares, citing a 2015 New York Times article that promoted Little Haiti as a “hot scene” on the rise. Since then, rent has skyrocketed at least 13 percent and was the ninth most expensive rental market in the nation at the top of 2018.
“Residents and small business owners in the area have been fiercely opposed to development projects that look to replace apartments with massive residential and commercial towers,” Portilla adds. “I decided to move three months ago, after getting a note from my landlord that my rent was increasing $200.”
Michael B. Jordan Is Repping Coach Men’s.
Marking a first for the luxury brand, the Black Panther star’s literally securing the bag. Jordan was announced as the new face of Coach Men’s on Thursday, and judging by the photo below, he appears to be pretty damn excited.
“In its 77-year history, luxury fashion label Coach has never had a male spokesperson as the face of its brand — let alone a Black, male spokesperson,” notes Essence. And he was reportedly chosen by Coach’s Creative Director, Stuart Vevers.
