In less than a year since her release, JT, born Jatavia Shakara Johnson, has reminded Hip Hop of her
lyrical prowess and feminine power. It’s no secret she and
Yung Miami have the fellas wrapped around their fingers — and we aren’t mad at it, not one bit.
Now, the duo’s star continues to grow, and they aren’t afraid to dip their toes in solo waters.
In a recent interview with
Interview Magazine, JT chopped it up with singer Kalu Uchis about her sex appeal and putting on for fellow Black women who are proud of their features.
‘I never had a problem making it because I was the shit in my city. But when I got into the industry on a different level, it was like, nah, that is not the standard. So for the tables to be turning right now and everybody to be like, “JT is so pretty,’ I love that. That was one barrier that I did break down, to be looked at as a beautiful Black girl and for other girls to say, “Oh my god, I look like JT.” I get that all the time. I used to get mad, like, ‘B-tch, is you trolling me?’ But I get it now, and I really, really love that. I take full responsibility for the girls that have broad features, big noses, big lips, darker skin,” she told Interview Mag.
