Elon Musk is finally leaving his governmental role at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) to focus on Tesla, but now accounts of his alleged behavior around Trump are coming to light.
Before cutting the government’s spending and firing thousands of employees, he was a mainstay on Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, and now the New York Times says his awkward jumping and Nazi-like saluting weren’t his only odd behaviors.
The newspaper spoke to those close to Musk, who detailed his alleged drug use, claiming he was more than just a casual user of a laundry list of substances.
“He told people he was taking so much ketamine, a powerful anesthetic, that it was affecting his bladder, a known effect of chronic use,” the Times wrote. “He took Ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms. And he traveled with a daily medication box that held about 20 pills, including ones with the markings of the stimulant Adderall, according to a photo of the box and people who have seen it.”
The report adds that the info comes from the private messages they obtained and over a dozen people who have worked with him, who were turned off by his “public conduct,” allegedly heightened by drugs. Board members at Tesla are also reportedly worried about his drug use, namely Ambien. He’s also alleged to have used ketamine daily and mixed it with other substances.
The Times asked Musk for a statement regarding the drug use allegations, and he denied commenting, but when mentioned again during his DOGE farewell party in the Oval Office, he only took shots at the publication’s legitimacy and told the reporter to “move on.”
Then on Saturday, he took to social media to shoot down the drug use rumors, only admitting to using ketamine sparingly in the past.
“Also, to be clear, I am NOT taking drugs! The New York Times was lying their ass off,” he said. “I tried *prescription* ketamine a few years ago and said so on 𝕏, so this is not even news. It helps for getting out of dark mental holes, but haven’t taken it since then.”
President Trump was later asked if he knew about Musk’s “regular drug use,” responding, “I wasn’t. I think Elon is a fantastic guy.”
