Some fans felt funny about Williams dancing on Drake’s proverbial grave, including
Stephen A. Smith, who said he’d divorce his wife if she felt the need to troll her ex.
“If I’m married, and my wife is going to troll her ex—go back to his ass,” he said. “Because clearly, you don’t belong with me. What you worried about him for—and you with me?”
Now, Williams’ husband Ohanian has spoken out about the Super Bowl performance –which had a record
126 million viewers— and he’s cool with it because crip walking represents something she received backlash for after defeating
Maria Sharapova in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
“Some of y’all have no idea how criticized Serena was for this same dance at Wimbledon 13 years ago, and it shows,” he tweeted. “This is bigger than the music.”
While Williams was able to crip walk without derogatory comments may have been the prevailing reason she performed with Lamar, she also reportedly dated Drake back in 2011 and 2015 when he was often seen courtside at her matches.
