Rapper Kaliii is part of the crop of new female rappers making their stamp on the world.
Her come-up has been quick since her breakout song ‘Do a B-tch’ received tons of traction on TikTok in 2021. Soon after, she found herself on tour with Latto, and the following year, she was named to XXL’s Freshman Class of 2022.
“After XXL, it was like, ‘Oh, it’s go time. You’ve got this. You know what you want, you know who Kaliii is, you know what Kaliii sounds like, you know what you want to represent, and you know where you want to go in life,’” she told Uproxx in 2023.
Then, her first mainstream rap song came in 2023 with “Area Codes,” an homage to the animated track of the same name by Ludacris, released in 2001. The song went viral soon after it was released, giving Kaliii another song, which even got airplay on the radio because young women couldn’t stop repeating that they had a “white boy on my roster, feeding me lobster and pasta.”
She even got a big look when she performed the song on the 2023 BET Awards Amplified stage. That song also led to her being featured on the Barbie soundtrack, where she teamed up with K-pop group Fifty Fifty for the song ‘Barbie Dreams.’
Kaliii’s hits keep coming; if you ask her why, it’s because her music resonates with her fans.
“That’s why a lot of girls tell me, ‘You make me feel like a bad bitch’ all the time. ’And that’s what I’m trying to do. I’m trying to make sure the girls feel that way,” she told Uproxx. “Because sometimes, I have my days where I’m down, and then I listen to my music, and it’s like, ‘Girl, you need to listen to yourself.'”
