Author, political commentator, and non-practicing attorney Van Jones used his We Rise Tour to have an extremely important conversation this week. Following the violent and untimely death of protester Heather Heyer at the hand of 20-year-old white supremacist James Alex Fields Jr., Jones revisited the heartbreaking attack with a chilling first-hand account, courtesy of one of the 19 people injured that fatal day in Charlottesville.

Constance, an activist who was hit by the same car that killed Heyer, tells Jones in an extended interview that she’ll “never forget the sounds.”

“First I heard the car hitting people. Bam, bam, bam, bam. And then I heard the screaming. I don’t remember getting struck, but I remember landing on the ground. And I remember hearing people saying, ‘Get up, get up he’s putting it in reverse,’” she says. Prior to the attack, Constance says she was threatened and taunted by a neo-Nazi who told her, “I really wish I could lynch you” and blew her a kiss.

As horrific as Constance’s account is, she has no plans on giving up the fight. “I love this country too much,” she tells Jones. She does, however, have a few words for #45. Constance says that, if she could, she would inform Donald Trump, “…that, sitting here as a victim of a terrorist attack in this country, that I am frightened and I am scared about the direction that we are going. If we don’t stop with the hate and the bigotry, that’s what is going to sink this ship and I don’t want that to happen.”
