Lupe Fiasco In Concert - New York, NY

Just about any topic is fair game on Twitter these days, but there are still three things on which we have generally agreed to never speak ill: the Obamas, Beyoncé and Black PantherLupe Fiasco, however, is now two for three when it comes to breaking that rule. The Food & Liquor rapper posted a slightly-critical review of the Marvel blockbuster on Instagram a few days ago, and quickly faced the wrath of the residents of Wakanda (i.e. all of us) as a result.

“So (Black Panther) still falls in the category of being an okay film,” he said. “I don’t think that the acting was like super amazing. Because one, I don’t think we’re used to seeing Black people on screen that much, and so when you do see a movie that’s all Black folks, this for me specifically, there’s a bias.”

Lupe’s comments were targeted not just by social media, but news outlets like The Grio and Blavity as well:

Well, rather than back down from his supposed misdeed, Lupe went full-Killmonger on everyone’s ass and defended himself on Twitter, even going so far as saying the retribution for his Panther comments are payback for his calling Barack Obama a “terrorist” way back when:

So, what y’all think? Has Wakanda Mania finally gone too far (to his point, it’s not like he dragged the film), or is Lupe just being a hater for attention?
