Clean Slate – Prime Video

Clean Slate pretty much had us at starring Laverne Cox and George Wallace. As for the plot, it’s described as a “heartfelt” comedy series that finds an OG named Harry (Wallace) reconnecting with his daughter after 17 years. The kicker is that said daughter is a trans woman (Cox) and since this is helmed by the late Norman Lear’s production team, expect buttons to be pushed. Considering the tumultuous times we are currently in, a fun but insightful look at real-life issues can’t hurt anybody—and it’s set in Alabama. All eight issues are available on Prime Video so this makes for a smooth weekend watch.—Alvin aqua Blanco
Kobe: The Making of a Legend– CNN

It took nearly two decades for basketball fans to get a comprehensive documentary on Michael Jordan. Due to his untimely passing, we may never get something as in-depth about Kobe Bryant, but CNN’s docuseries Kobe: The Making of a Legend did a solid job at encompassing the baller and the man off the court. The three-part series covers everything from his formative years in Italy to stardom as a five-time Champion Los Angeles Laker. He’d later marry Vanessa Laine, but there was more to his story than just signing a mega Nike sponsorship deal and becoming a father; there’s also the sexual assault trial after getting accused of rape in 2003.

Paradise – Hulu

Source: Hulu / Disney
Paradise, the new political thriller airing on Hulu, features Sterling K. Brown as Agent Xavier Collins, who heads up the president’s Secret Service detail. Brown’s character is thrust into the middle of a conspiracy after the assassination of President Cal Bradford, played expertly by James Marsden. Without giving too much away, the show is teeming with all sorts of twists and turns and even some sci-fi elements. Brown shines as Agent Collins while Julianne Nicholson, Sarah Shahi, and more add to a stellar cast. It appears that the critics are enjoying the show too so hop on over and check out the first three episodes this weekend! — D.L. Chandler
