Big Facts

Your Monday morning dose of #BlackGirlMagic is brought to you by Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson, who won the London 100m in a pair of regular ol’ trainers. “The spikes I have I’m not confident with and hurt my Achilles so I’m running in flats,” Thompson explained to Reuters. “They have spikes but they are very petite. They are built especially for me and made lighter.” As Sports Illustrated notes, Thompson won gold last year when she left everyone eating dust at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. With a season’s best of 10.71 at last month’s Jamaican national championships, she’s currently on top of the world—literally.

Big Lies

Australian reporter Chris Uhlmann gave a scathing review of Trump’s presidential performance and left the Internet reeling. Since airing on ABC’s Insiders, the video’s become the talk of Twitter and subsequently gone viral. Reporting from the G20 conference in Hamburg on Sunday, Uhlmann described Trump as showing “no desire and no capacity to lead the world” and “the biggest threat to the values of the west.”

“He was an uneasy, lonely, awkward figure at this gathering and you got the strong sense that some of the leaders are trying to find the best way to work around him,” he said. “Where was the G20 statement condemning North Korea which would have put pressure on China and Russia? Other leaders expected it, they were prepared to back it, but it never came.”

And the clincher:

“[He is] a man who barks out bile in 140 characters, who wastes his precious days as president at war with the west’s institutions like the judiciary, independent government agencies and the free press.”

Big News

The KKK rolled 50 deep in Charlottesville, Va. on Saturday, attracting hundreds of counter protesters, according to CNN. They were members of the North Carolina’s Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan and were protesting the city’s removal of a Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee statue, “one of several steps the city is taking to reduce its number of Confederate monuments.” Couter protesters reportedly overpowered the Klan’s chants of “white power” by yelling “racists go home.” Crazy to believe this is even happening in 2017, but also, not really.
