The annual Made In America festival, happening now in Philadelphia, has been packed with dope performances and excited crowds. Aside from torrential downpours, it’s been mostly free of headline-worthy moments — except for this one: Beyoncé blessing Cardi B with a photo op back stage on Saturday.
The moment, as expected, went instantly viral. Bey, in her Dapper Dan-inspired Gucci jacket and booty shorts, was hugging up on the rising femcee, who looked genuinely taken off guard and elated to have gotten the social media co-sign from the Queen. Cardi— she’s just like us!

But the story fans didn’t see was what happened just after photographers tried to capture a moment for themselves: event photographers flocked to the two artists like moths to a flame and one tried to get an “official” photo of the two. But Bey’s team shut it down by having trusted security tackle the interloping photog. Indeed, peep her bodyguard Julius in the background of the pic above, ready to strike.
Folks were also quick to point out the last time Bey gave the shoulder hug to a rising artist:
Congrats, Cardi! This is probably a bigger moment for your career than reaching the top of the Billboard charts.
