Big Facts

Despite recent LGBTQ representation wins in film and television (see: Moonlight, Dear White People), a new GLAAD report says “the forecast for the summer blockbuster season is a continuation of LGBTQ invisibility.” To be specific, only 23 of the 125 major Hollywood films released in 2016 featured LGBTQ characters. That’s 18.4%. “The time has come for the film industry to step up and show the full diversity of the world that movie audiences are living in today,” GLAAD President Sarah Kate Ellis said. “Films like ‘Moonlight’ prove there is a huge opportunity to not only tell LGBTQ stories worthy of Oscar gold, but to open the hearts and minds of audiences here and around the world in places where these stories can be a lifeline to the people who need it most.” Read more form GLAAD’s 2017 Studio Responsibility Index here.

Big Lies

The FBI reportedly has eyes on Trump’s senior advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner. According to NBC News, investigators think Kushner may or may not have some info regarding the Russia investigation, though “that does not mean they suspect him of a crime or intend to charge him.” Still, you can’t help but feel like there may be something going on. As NBC notes, Kushner has met with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak and Russian banker Sergey Gorkov in the past. Kushner’s lawyer, Jamie Gorelick, told NBC: “Mr. Kushner previously volunteered to share with Congress what he knows about these meetings. He will do the same if he is contacted in connection with any other inquiry.” We’ll have our popcorn.

Big News

Miss Black Texas 2016 Carmen Ponder wants police chief Kerry Crews fired after he allegedly called her a “Black b***h” and wrongfully had her arrested. Ponder took to Twitter Tuesday to detail an account of the incident, which—honestly—left us without words. In her account, Ponder says she was minding her business and driving to Walmart when a black truck cut in front of her and kept braking. Assuming the driver was drunk, she drove around them to avoid an accident and continued on her way. And that’s when sh*t went to sh*t. Apparently Crews was teaching his 14-year-old daughter how to drive and was furious with Ponder for driving around her. Next thing you know, more cops are called to the scene, and, of course, Ponder ends up in cuffs. Read her story in full below.
