Sean “Diddy” Combs amid numerous
rape and sex trafficking allegations as well as the
release of video footage that unambiguously shows him brutally abusing his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura. And they all seem to have the same argument for why Diddy should be shielded from public condemnation no matter what he has done
—his legacy. We were entertained by him once, and therefore we should always love him
Diddy’s ex and the first mother of his first child, Misa Hylton, is the latest Diddy defender trying to convince people that they should show the Bad Boy mogul grace, recounting her personal history with him and his contributions to the culture.
“1993. I was pregnant. Puffy just got fired from Uptown Records. Dre said there cannot be two Kings in a castle. He was right. It comes a time,” Hylton captioned an Instagram photo of her pregnant with their son, Justin Combs. “Puffy was scared. He had a child on the way and we just moved into a Big beautiful new home. He had me call Dre and ask for his job back several times. Dre stood on business. The same way a father would when it’s time for his son to make that move.”

It was a lengthy message that mostly had zero to do with the allegations of rape and sexual assault against him or the ironclad proof that he ruthlessly attacked Cassie, but Hylton did eventually get to that part, but only to warn her followers not to “come here with any negativity” and to “try praying for everyone involved,” adding, “You cannot erase history and cultural impact.”
“This is also OUR legacy. EVERY single person whose blood, sweat, tears, talent and business acumen went into this movement. WERE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED WERE YOU NOT INSPIRED??!” she wrote.
Again, what does any of that have to do with what Diddy has done? If Hylton wants to go on a personal trip down Bad Boy memory lane, that’s her business, but his legacy actually is not “OUR legacy” and any praise of him now will result in commenters dragging him like he deserves to be dragged regardless of how “entertained” and “inspired” his fans might have been.
Also, this is all very rich coming from someone who, not long ago, was sending her bleeding heart out to Cassie following the news of the abuse she endured.

In response to the post, many considered Hylton’s statement offensive and confusing, especially considering just months ago she wrote about being “heartbroken” for singer and model Casandra ‘Cassie’ Ventura, who was abused by Diddy.
“I am heartbroken that Cassie must relive the horror of her abuse, and my heart goes out to her. I know exactly how she feels, and through my empathy, it has triggered my own trauma,” Hylton wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post.
Yeah—if Hylton really has “empathy” for Cassie and truly knows “exactly how she feels,” why is she now going out of her way to sing her abuser’s praises? All of these Diddy capers would do well to keep their thoughts in the drafts. Diddy doesn’t warrant or deserve our support, and nothing about his “legacy” changes that.
