Fly Eagles Fly: Philadelphia Eagles Win Super Bowl LIX In Blowout Win Over Kansas City Chiefs

Jalen Hurts wanted revenge in his second Super Bowl matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, and he got it. The Philadelphia Eagles are officially the winners of Super Bowl LIX after defeating the Chiefs 40-22. The final score shouldn’t be a complete surprise, as the Eagles did what they needed to ensure a victory: to come out strong with a strong offensive performance from Jalen Hurts and for Saquon Barkley’s running game to be on point. They soared to a 24-0 lead at the half and never looked back. Fortunately for Philly fans, they did both as Hurts put on a quarterback masterclass, with 221 yards, rushing for 72, and throwing for three touchdowns with just five incompletions and only one interception. The Chiefs nearly shut down Barkley, who only had 31 yards on 12 carries at the half, but helped cement his perennial running abilities. He became just the ninth player to eclipse the 2,000 rushing mark for 2,476 yards, which is the most in history for regular and post-season.

After the confetti fell, Hurts spoke to Fox’s Erin Andrews about his performance being possible only because his selfless teammates lifted him up.

“I think, personally myself, I’ve been able to use every experience and learn from it. The good, the bad, all of it, using it as fuel to pursue my own greatness,” he said on the field. “And I couldn’t do any of these things without these guys around me. We’ve got a special group this year; we learn from the past and get some nice new pieces and get over the hump.”

The Chiefs didn’t seem poised for much of the game, as the dominant Eagles defense had Patrick Mahomes unsteady in the pocket in a complete dismantling. The scrambling left the Chiefs unable to make it past midfield the entire first half and an empty-handed Travis Kelce, who’s usually Mahomes’ favorite target. He threw three interceptions, which is a rarity for the three-time Super Bowl champion. The win marks the Eagles’ second time hoisting the Vince Lombardi trophy, with the first coming back in 2018.
