Jordan Brand Introduces The Air Jordan 40

As we enter the fourth decade since the Jordan Brand was introduced, the sneakerhead mainstay is celebrating in a special way by introducing the Air Jordan 40.

Jordan Brand is looking forward to the next generation of players by upgrading the sneaker’s tech as the first silhouette under Nike to feature length Nike ZoomX foam with a full Zoom Strobel, which provides wearers with immense responsiveness and more explosiveness behind quick cuts.

The new technology infused into the sole, known as ZoomX, is also extremely light and delivers athletes an 85% energy return. Futurism also plays a part in the shoe’s design, and as an homage to its name, the Jordan 40, the outsole consists entirely of 40-degree points to enhance traction.

However, with 40 years of models in the archives, the Jordan brand had to pay homage to the past, thanks to a discreet nod to Michael Jordan’s six championships, as well as incorporating design elements from past models. Sneakerheads may be able to recognize oft-forgotten early 2000s models in the Jordan 40, such as the squared wide toe in the 16, 17, and 18, and have a similar lacing system to those models, sans their coverings.

Another nod to Jordan’s legacy that purists love on retros is the Nike Air heel tab, and now it’s returned to the Jordan 40. More subtle detailing is visible on the outsole, as the ball from the logo appears on the toe cap —a small detail reminiscent of the Jordan 12. The rippled tongue is also similar to the Jordan 5s.

However, looking ahead, Jumpman is poised to blend nostalgia with fresh energy and feature Jordan Brand athletes in them next season, starting with the Orlando Magic’s Paolo Banchero.

The white and black colorway, dubbed “The Classic,” arrives on July 12 at Jordan.com and select retail locations for a sticker price of $205.
