Chef Tobias Dorzon, a former NFL player, has reportedly been shot amid a robbery in Maryland last week.
The Hyattsville Police Department broke the news on social media, saying it happened near his Hyattsville-area apartment as he was returning home from grabbing food with a woman. Now, they’re looking for the five people involved in the alleged attempted crime.
“We now have descriptions of four out of the five suspects in the shooting on Nov. 5 that wounded two,” reads a portion of the statement on Facebook. “They’ve been taken to the hospital. It’s believed that their injuries are not life-threatening. We are working to get a description of the suspects.”
Police say the suspects were driving a white SUV with a sunroof but could not get the tags. However, they did note that all of the alleged criminals were wearing black jackets and equipped with different guns–semi-automatic handguns and one short-barrel rifle.
An accompanying picture on Facebook shows police with caution tape wrapped around an apartment located near Little Branch Run and Kirkwood Place, which officials categorize as the 2500 block of Kirkwood Place.
Local news station WBALTV was able to obtain surveillance footage of the incident, which reportedly shows a person crawling behind a car to hide from the gunmen while another lay on the ground. Next, “rapid” gunshots can be heard, as well as a woman’s screaming.
Dorzon’s cooking skills have landed him on the Food Network, where he starred on shows like Chopped, Tournament of Champions, and Guy’s Grocery Games. His journey into becoming a chef was inspired by his father, who owned a West African restaurant and worked as a chef at the Pentagon.
However, before his recent success, he went the sports route after attending Jackson State University. Then, after time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans, and a stint in the Canadian Football League, he attended the International Culinary School at the Art Institution of Washington.
