The story of Atlanta, Georgia’s legendary Magic City strip club is now the subject of a docuseries. The club, which has been around for more than four decades, is an acknowledged part of the city’s robust nightlife, made famous by rappers and celebrities from entertainment and sports.
The strip club is known for the quality of its dancers, breaking new music, and its food. The lemon pepper wings earned then L.A. Clippers player Lou Williams a 10-day quarantine in the NBA bubble during COVID when he headed there after a funeral.
“The energy there is different, like you just know you in the middle of something legendary,” rapper Cardi B once said.
Magic City: An American Fantasy, created and produced by Cole Brown, will debut on the channel this summer. Charles Todd will direct and Jermaine Dupri and Drake‘s DreamCrew Productions are among the executive producers. Actress Jamie Gertz, who with her husband Tony Ressler are the principal owners of the Atlanta Hawks, is also on board as a producer.
“Magic City: An American Fantasy is a riveting behind-the-curtain look at one of the most unique places in Black culture,” said Kathryn Busby, president of original programming at Starz said in a statement. “The docuseries’ unprecedented insider access and history unveiled from those who built its empire is a perfect complement to Starz’s slate of adult, culture-driving shows.”
The series will reveal more about the club’s mysterious founder, Michael “Mr. Magic” Barney, and the dancers at the center who have made the club so popular. “Magic City is a second home for me,” Dupri said in a statement when the docuseries was first announced in 2023. “It’s the one place where celebrities, hustlers, politicians, and Atlanta locals all come together. I’ve watched it evolve over the years from a local joint to an internationally recognized spot. It’s about time we tell this story the right way,”
