After an uneventful 2024-25 season in the NFL, wide receiver Kadarius Toney has wound up back in the news.
According to TMZ, the two-time Super Bowl champ was arrested last week after being accused of strangling a woman.
Police documents read that on Jan.14, the former NFL player wrapped his hands around a woman’s throat” with enough force to cause her to be unable to breathe” at his Douglasville, Georgia home, which is located about 20 miles from Atlanta.
Upon further investigation of the alleged victim, red marks were seen around her neck and hemorrhaging in her eyes. The report includes that Toney physically stopped the woman from being able to contact 911 by taking her phone and even stopped voice commands intended to phone the cops, too.
His arrest came on Feb. 6 after getting charged with aggravated assault and obstructing or hindering an emergency call. However, according to the Associated Press, he was released the same day after posting a $50,000 bail, as authorities attached $25,000 to each charge.
Toney was the New York Giants’ first-round draft pick in 2021, but he only spent a season with the team before he was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs. That season, he made history in the Super Bowl against the Eagles when his 65-yard punt return became the longest in Super Bowl history. He also caught a fourth-quarter touchdown that helped change the game’s momentum and led to the win over the Philadelphia Eagles. He earned a second ring the following season despite missing the wild card game, the playoffs, and even Super Bowl LVIII, where the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers.
However, things went downhill after that when he tore his meniscus and battled through hip and ankle injuries. He was later released before the Cleveland Browns picked him up, where he appeared in just three games in 2024.
