Kyrie Irving Donates $50,000 To Tamir Rice’s Mom To Help Build A Youth Center

Kyrie Irving is no stranger to making hefty donations, and his latest philanthropic move touches the family of Tamir Rice.
Rice’s killing in 2014 by Cleveland police when he was playing with a toy gun served as one of the heartbreaking crimes that highlighted the Black Lives Matter movement and pushed for police reform.
The fight continues on, now more than a decade since his death on the week that he would have celebrated his 23rd birthday.
So, his mother, Samaria, has a goal of building a cultural center in Cleveland to honor his life, launching a GoFundMe with a goal of $ 110,000, and thanks to Kyrie Irving’s $50,000 donation, she’s already more than halfway there. The Dallas Mavericks star’s name and five-figure payment can be seen among the more than 1,200 people who have donated so far.
In the petition, she asks people to donate $23 to represent the age he would have been, and reminds them of the importance of cultivating youth and providing a safe space for them to express their creativity within their own community.
Her master plan is in motion since she already has the building and just needs the funds to kickstart the project on behalf of the Tamir Rice Foundation.
“I purchased a building in the city of Cleveland to give back to our inner city youth with art and cultural developments,” she writes. “I have already invested into this beautiful historical building with you all support. The help you all already have given Tamir’s legacy we are for ever appreciative.
She assures that she’s gotten people on her side to see the project through, adding, “We now have new team to help us follow this through. I’m almost finished. I will not let my community down or anyone who believe in the vision. Trust me you will see the results.”
Irving is known for being generous with his millions, including donating $1.5 million to WNBA players who sat out during the COVID-19 season, $22,000 to a struggling Howard student to continue their studies, and $45,000 in aid to a school and orphanage in Ghana.
